Section 10: Creating Your Own Print & Cut Designs
In addition to those found from QuicKutz, you may also opt to create your own Print and Cut projects. This may be done with images you have created within the Silhouette with the Text or Drawing tools, or by assigning cut lines to imported images.
You may create your own images to use with the Print and Cut feature in the following manner:
-
Create a drawn image with closed lines from the drawing tools or text from the "Text" feature.

- Select one of your line image parts. The Selected line should be shown in blue.
-
Select the
Fill Settings tool (located on the bottom left-hand side of the software screen) OR right-click on your selected line and click on "Fill Settings"

-
Once the "Fill Settings" window is displayed, you will see that it is defaulted to "Transparent". Click on the "Fill Type" drop-down arrow and select to have a "Solid" fill type.

-
Select "Modify Color"

-
Select your preferred color for the image part selected and click on "OK"

-
Once your color selection is confirmed, click on "OK"

You can now see your filled image.

-
OPTIONAL: If you have other closed lines within your filled image, you may also adjust these by selecting the other parts of your image and repeating the steps above. In this example, we have also filled in the eyes and mouth to show how you may create multiple filled image parts:

-
OPTIONAL: If you have created multiple colored parts to your image as shown in the previous step, if you proceed without making further alterations, in the example above the Silhouette is at this point going to cut out the outside circle along with all nested lines in the image. After coloring in the internal parts of the image, you may change the lines to non-cut lines so that the Silhouette only prints the internal parts of the image rather than also cutting them out.
Here is an example of what the Silhouette is being told to cut if all lines are active:

And here is what the Silhouette is being told to cut if you change the line types of the internal parts of your image to non-cut lines:

- Select the lines you do not want to be cut.
-
Right-click and select "Line Settings"

-
In the "Line Settings" window, change the "Line Type" to "None"

- Repeat as desired with other cut lines. These lines will not be directed to cut unless you adjust them back.
-
OPTIONAL: You may also select to fill with a "Gradient" effect rather than a "Solid" effect.
-
To do so, after selecting your image and accessing the "Fill Settings", select the "Gradient" fill type.

-
Adjust the Gradient settings to your liking

The resulting effect will be a gradient filled effect rather than a simple solid color. This gradient will travel across the entire image or entire text selected rather than repeat itself on each individual image part or letter. An example is shown below:

- Once you have your image and/or text created and filled to your liking, access the "Registration Mark Settings" by going to the "Edit" menu and selecting "Registration Mark Settings", or by clicking on the
Registration Mark Settings button.
-
Turn on the Registration Marks by checking the "Use Registration Marks" option.

-
Follow the steps to perform a Print and Cut job as previously directed.
Your resulting job from the above example would provide the following cut out project:

As previously mentioned you may also create your own Print and Cut image with imported images by following the instructions previously provided in the "Working with External Images" section and assigning cut lines where desired.
- Import your image
- OPTIONAL: Clip your image if desired. Remember, clipping your image is not assigning cut lines. It is simply clipping away part of your image so it is not printed on your paper.
-
Assign cut lines to your image by either
- Using the Auto-Trace feature (using the "Outer Frame Only" option), OR
- Tracing your image by hand with the drawing tools (may be necessary with photos or more intricately detailed images).
- Follow the steps to perform a Print and Cut job
